Temple II to the left and Great Plaza below. The Great Plaza that we see is a well manicured, grassy area.
Originally it was plastered. Four different plaster floors were found a little below the present surface,
dating from 150 BC to 700 AD.

An ocellated turkey in the Great Plaza area that appeared to be hoping that a tourist would feed him or her.
Females and males look about the same. They are a protected species in Tikal National Park.

A white-nosed coatimundi (coati) that was nearby.

Since Tikal is so large, we were driven to and from the main area in a pickup truck. We had to squeeze
together to fit everyone in. I was standing directly behind the driver's area, with no room to sit down, giving
me a good opportunity to take a picture of most of the group. A couple of the men on the tour were also
in the driver's compartment of the truck. Our tour leader, Ivania Sibrian, is on the left in blue.

We stayed in Flores the night before and the night after seeing Tikal. Here is a view from our small hotel.

Before dinner, I walked along the walkway alongside the water.

A typical street in Flores, the capital city of the Peten department (like a state) of Guatemala. The population is
around 14,000. Flores serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality, with which it shares a name.
The old part of the city, where we stayed, is located on an island on Lake Peten Itza, connected to the
mainland by a short causeway.
