Tour du Mont Blanc (Mont Blanc Circuit)
July 4 - July 20, 2014
Part Three - Tour du Mont Blanc - Courmayeur, Italy back to Chamonix, France
Page Eight - Hike 6 - Courmayeur, Italy to La Vachey, Italy
Some of the group gathering for our hike from the Courmayeur
hotel to La Vachey.
Like all the other days, the wildflowers were great.
Unusual type of butterfly
Note the green beetle.
Courmayeur is way below in the valley. Here a helicopter lands for a few
seconds stop at the Rifugio
Bertone, where we had a rest and snack break.
Helicopters are used by a lot of the huts to drop off supplies.
Twin terminal moraines of the Glacier de Miage, descending off Mont Blanc massif.
We saw edelweiss growing wild. Stephane said you do not
see them often, because so many people have picked them in the wild.
This flower has a very nice and strong vanilla smell.
Rifugio Bonnatti - named after famous Italian mountain climber Walter
Bonnatti. Stephane was kind to go with Jeff to this hut that has
photos of Bonnati's life and climbs, while the rest of us took
a more direct route to our lodging for the night.
Aiguille Noire de Peuterey
Beautiful valley view as we neared La Vachey.
Mont Blanc is hidden by clouds almost in the center of this photo.
The pinnacle on left is Aiguille Noire de Peuterey.
Place where we spent the night, the second and only
other place where we did not have a toilet or shower
in the room.
In the early evening, clouds parted revealing Mont Blanc
behind a small mountain.
